High-dimensional quantum dynamics of adsorption and desorption of H2_2 at Cu(111)

We performed high-dimensional quantum dynamical calculations of the dissociative adsorption and associative desorption of hydrogen on Cu(111). The potential energy surface (PES) is obtained from density functional theory calculations. Two regimes of dynamics are found, at low energies sticking is determined by the minimum energy barrier, at high energies by the distribution of barrier heights. Experimental results are well-reproduced qualitatively, but some quantitative discrepancies are identified as well.Comment: 4 two column pages, revtex, 4 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. Let

ELDER LAW—MY LIFE, MY CHOICE

As the most recent past president of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) I have been involved in elder law for over thirty years, even before there was a sub-practice of estate planning called elder law. In fact, for estate planning, I recall when the primary document a client needed was a will. The required document has expanded and now includes a will, health proxy, power of attorney, a POLST form (Physician’s Order for Life Sustaining Treatment), sometimes a living will, and other various documents a client may desire, such as a cremation order, a pre-arranged burial, and the like. Many years ago, it was also the norm that many wished to be kept alive by machines, or did not take a stand as to their preference, with many families refusing to talk about it. It was also the norm that most people were buried and not cremated. Times have changed, and the pendulum has swung the other way in many cases. I remember how my mother was ill for many years, and it was determined that all measures would be taken to keep her alive, even at the end of her life when there was absolutely no chance of recovery

Enhanced EQSR based QoS Mechanism for Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks are widely used in real-time applications. Due to the resource limited nature of sensor networks providing Quality of Service (QoS) is quiet interesting and challenging task for the researchers in recent years. The QoS based schemes require to cope up with the energy constrained smaller devices. Therefore, allowing QoS applications in sensor networks mandate it to implement in separate layers. In this work an enhanced version of Energy Efficient Quality of Service Routing (EQSR) is offered. The enhanced EQSR maximizes the task of the application in mixed delay sensitive and delay tolerant applications. The scheme balances the energy by distributing the traffic in a disperse manner that guaranties the delay sensitive packets to be forwarded on time within the tolerable delay. By conducting simulations with varying scenarios the performance of the protocol is evaluated and compared with the base EQSR. The simulation results have proven that the enhanced EQSR works better by lowering the energy and increasing the packet delivery ratio
